10 reviews for Delta Children Canton 4-in-1 Convertible Crib – Easy to Assemble, Bianca White

This is a great crib. It’s sturdy real wood that’s stained, so no chipping laminate, and you can re-stain if it gets damaged. It was pretty easy to put together, if you follow the instructions. In particular, pay attention to the pins. They’re small in the pictures and easy to miss, but they make life so much easier, by holding the rails in place while you align them and screw them in place! I didn’t really notice a smell coming from the crib, just the smell of plastic and packaging, which went away after I threw out the packaging and opened a window for a bit. I love all the curves on this crib, and the smooth finish. It’s beautiful! I also love the 4-in-1 setup, which will hopefully last crib to college! The espresso cherry finish is elegant enough to fit an adolescent just as well as a baby, unlike the white, which looks more like nursery furniture and may be outgrown at some point.

The mattress support has 3 positions, which is useful for the different ages. Now that cribs don’t have drop sides anymore, even the highest position of the mattress (which is still pretty low) is a bit hard to reach if you’re pregnant with an Irish twin and trying to bend over the rail to pick up the first baby (and you don’t have long arms). Especially because the top edge of the front side curves out a little and adds extra distance. But that’s just how it is with these cribs.

The sides of the crib curve up a little, which looks nice, but this way the width of that top horizontal bar is different along the length of it, and some mobiles will not fit along the wider parts. I didn’t think to ask for the width of it beforehand and check with the mobile I was getting, so now it only fits towards the front, not really in the middle… but whatever, it’s not too bad. Something to keep in mind though.

People have mentioned that the screws have no covers. That is true, probably for safety reasons, but they are set so deep that it’s really not noticeable. The screws themselves and the inside of the holes match the color of the crib, so they don’t stand out. I really don’t mind it at all.

The only thing I didn’t like is how the crib was packaged. There was no padding along the large sides of the box, and it seems that something sharp and heavy fell on it during transport, and tore a big hole in it. The wood in that spot was crushed. Lucky it was on the back side facing the wall, so you can’t see. After having read about how difficult it is to return this (no spare parts, you have to return the whole thing), I’m glad the crushed part isn’t visible, otherwise it would’ve been a major pain to re-pack and return such a large item, and wait for a replacement. If your box looks crushed, open it carefully so it would be easier to re-package and return if you have to.

UPDATE: My daughter is 3.5 years old now and she still sleeps in this crib. I don’t trust her loose at night, so I haven’t removed the rails, and she plays along and doesn’t try to climb out (after doing it and falling once, she decided it’s not worth the risk, ha!) The crib still fits her with lots of room to grow! She loves her bed. I’m so glad I don’t have to go through the drama of moving her to a toddler bed. She can stay in this crib until she starts grade school!

When her brother was born, I got a second crib just like hers, so now they have matching cribs. He’s 20 months old now and both cribs are holding up great. No problems whatsoever. Highly recommend!

P.S. I see some people are having issues finding a mattress for this crib. I got the "Safety 1st Heavenly Dreams White Crib Mattress" for both of our cribs, and it fits perfectly! No gap whatsoever – it’s really snug, you have to push it down in place, that’s how tightly it fits. Perfect fit. The first mattress is 3.5 years old now and holding up great.

The summary of this review is that the crib is a good value for the price. I fear my review might sound overly negative but if you take it from the perspective of what you would expect at this price point, it meets all criteria you would expect. I purchased for my grandson to use at my house so it’s only likely to be used a couple of times per month at most. The overall rating is based on that type of expected usage.

First, a warning. Assemble it in the room it will live in. Once assembled, it’s not going to fit thru a standard 32 inch interior door. Not at any angle. I should know better but listened to my better half and assembled in the comfort of my living room, only to have to partially disassemble to get it into the bedroom after several attempts to get it thru the doorway on different angles. Learn from my mistakes.

Second, the positives. It’s nice looking crib and it will certainly support a baby thru a toddler. It feels solid, even after having to do a partial disassembly/re-assembly. All of the edges are smooth and everything appears to be up to safety standards. Overall, a very functional piece. My daughter (the baby’s mother) even commented that it was fancy (i.e. ‘bourgie’, as the young people say). I would not call it that but appearances do make it look that way.

Assembly was not overly complicated. There are a couple of points where it would be nice to have a second set of hands but I was able to accomplish on my own. I’ve built a lot of these types of things so I know the tricks. The instructions were fair to middling — they tell you enough to get it together but they could’ve added a couple of pictures for both the left and right railing assembly. While they are mirror images, it’s hard to know for certain the direction it should face when disassembled. Most parts and hardware were marked with stickers (A, B, C, etc) so that made it easier as well. All in all, a mildly handy individual should be able to assemble in 30-60 minutes.

Finally, the negatives. To repeat myself, this crib will certainly be fine for my usage — a few times per month. I think it would also be fine for everyday usage for a year or two. I’m not sure about anything past that. Definitely not an heirloom piece but if you are expecting that for under $200, you’re delusional. I would not purchase with the intent to use it as a twin size bed (those pieces cost extra and I’m not convinced it’s worth it or will last that long).

The top realistic negative is that there was a small odor from the crib that lasted for 24 or so hours. It didn’t seem toxic but it didn’t smell like lillies either. Unfortunately, I had received it the day I needed it so I didn’t really have a chance to air it out and my grandson slept in it under those conditions. He didn’t seem to mind and if I thought it was at all dangerous, he would not have.

Somewhat unrealistic negatives: It’s pressed wood/particle wood. The veneer is smooth and looks like real wood but looking in the pre-drilled holes, you can see it’s pressed wood. The weight of each piece also gives it away. I didn’t really expect real, solid wood at this price but it’s worth mentioning for anyone that cares. Also, assembly involves allen bolts with the included right size tool included. That is standard for this type of furniture but it’s worth mentioning because these types of assemblies get weaker the more you disassemble and reassemble them and the more you move them. Thus, it’s worth seeing my warning again about assembling in place to ensure you don’t have any unnecessary disassembly.

Again, I don’t want this to sound overly negative because it’s pretty much what should be expected for the price but it’s good for perspective buyers to know what they are getting, thus the 4 star rating. This is not something you are going to pass down thru the generations but given how safety standards on cribs seem to constantly evolve, there aren’t many cribs that last more then one generation.

In the end, it’s worth what I paid (under 200) and it will definitely serve my purpose.

Easy for my husband to put together, and good quality. Looks great in my sons nursery and was well packaged. There wasn’t any flaws in the finish/paint. Great value for the money, and I can easily store stuff underneath it as it’s blocked from sight by the bedskirt.

I love the quality and look of the crib. Bought this crib 2 years ago for my first child and just bought a second for my next baby. No issues with chipping paint or scratches. Highly recommend.

We got this because our son needed a new crib, and we wanted one that grew with him. A friend recommended this specific one because she uses it for both of her twins. So far, it’s perfect for what our son needs.

This crib is really great – especially for the price. As any new parent is probably aware, cribs at the big box store can be VERY expensive (usually between 400-600 dollars). I did a lot of looking around at different cribs online and at brick and mortar stores before settling on this Delta crib. I actually got this one along with the dresser for less than the price I would have paid in the store for just the crib. It is worth noting that this crib is very sturdy, and was pretty comparable with the higher priced cribs. I also really like that this crib can be changed into a toddler bed and then a bed (it remains to be seen if it will last this long or not, however). As some of the other reviewers noted, the screw heads are not covered (I mean really, how much would it cost to throw a few caps in so you wouldn’t see them). However, the screws are a dark color to match the crib, so you really don’t notice them. You could go to your local hardware store to get some caps if this does bother you. Also, some reviewers noted that the wood is "really soft", but this has not been my experience. I really feel that this is a great value for the price.

    PROS:
*#1, hands down is the value for the price – I looked all over and couldn’t find a better deal
*Finish (espresso cherry) is very attractive, I have had many compliments on it
*Easy to assemble – my husband and I were able to set this up in under an hour
    *Convertible to toddler bed/crib
*Numerous height settings – you can adjust how high the mattress is as your baby grows
*Weight – this crib is relatively light, which some people might think is a con, but I can easily move it around the room and clean underneath it (something that happens more than you’ll imagine with a baby!)

    CONS:
*Screw heads are exposed – however, it is worth noting that they are sunk and not really obvious because they are dark colored like the crib
*Stickers can be hard to remove – like most companies they put caution and labeling stickers on the crib which are near impossible to take off without leaving residue. Can’t they put stickers on that can be easily removed????

All in all, I would recommend this crib to a friend/fellow mommy and I will be getting another one when/if I have another child.

Purchased for my granddaughter when she visits. Love the color, ease of instructions. Beautifully crafted. I love this crib.

FIVE YEARS. We’ve had ours for five years and we’re now donating it to another family in need. We’re being handed down a beautiful trundle bed with some significant meaning and it just so happens to line up with someone in need of a toddler bed.

This crib/toddle bed has been so good to us. It’s solid, sturdy, and kept the little one safe. Our goal was to use this as a full size bed down the road, but plans have changed. It’ll be great to finally get rid of the extra pieces we’ve been storing for all these years, but it’s time.

I’ve seen a lot of comments on the bed frame and if it isn’t already obvious, it breaks due to uneven weight distribution or if an adult just so happens to try and lay in the crib with the child. It happens and this isn’t rated for that. It’s also not rated for kids to jump on. Has my kiddo jumped on it? Yes, she’s five and it’ll happen. But adults shouldn’t be stepping into this. I’ve laid in it plenty of times, but I’ve always had weight distribution in mind.

If you’re looking for a crib with longevity, this is it and good luck to you new parents.
